Viking Nordic Mjolnir Blog
Our Viking Nordic Mjolnir Blog Page is something new at Dragon Soul Jewelry. This is our first blog page of many to come for many things we carry. We recently have received many questions on the Viking Jewelry as well as Norse meanings etc. It truly and most surely seems that many more now have the mighty Thor’s Hammer fever. This is a good sickness to have. History is very important and learning of the great people across history is equally valuable.
Viking Thor’s Hammer Meanings:
Mjolnir. One of the most known symbols in Nordic Norse mythology. Thor’s Hammer (Old Germanic Norse Mjölnir) Pronounced mee ol nir is one of the most historically important, and is probably the best known today.Thor was the power god that guarded the kingdom of Asgard, and the celestial Aesir. He was part of the main tribe of gods and goddesses in Norse mythology. The giants, were the forces of chaos. They were always trying to destroy Asgard and kill the Aesir. Thor’s job was to keep them from doing any of that. The hammer was his chosen weapon. But it was not an ordinary hammer. Whenever Thor threw it at an enemy? It returned to his hands like a magical boomerang.
“Thor”. Even his very name had great meaning and significance. It means “Thunder”. What a thing to be called and what a huge honor as well. Now you may also ask how was Thor’s Hammer actually made? One day, the well known trickster Loki was feeling especially “clever”. He proceeded to cut off the beautiful golden hair of Thor’s wife Sif. Of course this enraged Thor! He was just about to kill Loki when Loki swore to go down to Svartalfheim which was the land of the Dwarves. The Dwarves were well known for being greatest blacksmiths in all of the “9” worlds. Loki pleaded for his life and struck this bargain with Thor.He vowed to obtain a head of hair for Sif that was far more beautiful and perfect than the one he had just stupidly cut off. Thor pondered and then agreed to this plea bargain.
While in the land of the dwarves, Loki was able to get his prize. That fine golden hair! But being Loki he also had hidden agendas. So he then challenged several dwarves to prove who was the best blacksmith. He was able to then get several special treasures for the gods. Among these treasures was Thor’s Hammer! When Thor saw the hammer and the hair he agreed to let Loki live. Any questions? This is how the Mighty Mjolnir was made. We hope the first in our Viking Nordic Mjolnir Page was a good informative piece.
